I am so bad! I know I promised a post a few days ago, but these babies are unpredictable and I could not get to it. Here is the update on the babies that I promised.
The babies are almost 5 months old now. I can’t believe they are that old already, but at the same time, it seems like forever ago that they were born. Let me just say, this has not been easy but it has been an amazing ride.
I have been pumping for the babies since they were born. I had dreams of tandem breastfeeding, but Alex never could latch on well in the beginning and breastfeeding Libby and pumping for him became too much for me to handle. I was able to keep up with their supply needs until recently. Their demand has surpassed my supply, even though I am pumping 60 oz a day, and we are now having to supplement with formula. I had originally wanted to keep “breastfeeding” for a year, but at this point I am aiming for 6 months and then we will go from there. It is extremely hard to find time to pump when I am alone with the babies, which is almost all the time.
The twins have been sleeping through the night since 2 months old (thank the good Lord)! At first we thought it was a fluke, but when the continued to do it we were thrilled. At first they slept from around 11pm until 6am, but slowly we have increased the time to 8pm until around 9:30am. I do wake them to dream feed at midnight when I go to bed and they wake up themselves at around 6:30am to eat again, but then they go back to sleep until 9:30am. Napping was another issue all together. For the first 4 months the babies would not nap during the day. They would take 15 minute cat naps here and there, but nothing substantial. It was impossible to get anything done. I am happy to say that in the past 3 weeks, we have established a 2pm until 4pm or 5pm nap. Overall, I have to say we have been blessed with the babies’s sleeping habits.
The babies stats are as follows: Alex weighs 14 lbs 13 oz and Libby weighs 14 lbs 2 oz. I can’t believe how big they are getting. When they were first born they were so tiny and now they are robust babies. Here is a comparison:

They are still a little small for their age, but they started off pretty small, so it’s not a problem.
The babies are now sleeping in the nursery in their cribs. They stayed with us in our room for 4 and a half months, but last week we transitioned them into their cribs. It has gone smoothly so far. We are using the Angel Care Monitors for the babies. Honestly, I wouldn’t sleep without it, and with it, I have slept better than I have since the babies were born. I highly recommend it.
Hmmm, what else? The babies are meeting all their milestones. Smiling, rolling over, “talking” etc. We got the go ahead to start solid from the doctor, but we decided to wait until around 6 months to introduce solids to the twins. I can’t wait to try different foods! We have started practicing putting a spoon in their mouths. Hopefully, by the time they are ready to eat, they will be used to the spoon. OK. That’s all the time I have right now. Here are some recent pics of the cuties. Bye for now!
