Alex and Libby’s first Halloween!

by noelle on November 2, 2011

It is no secret that my favourite time of year is Halloween.  I have waited many years to have kids to share it with and this year my wish finally came true.  We had a lot of fun!

The day before Halloween we headed to The Big BOO! a pumpkin patch my mom suggested.  It was a great time.  My mom and sister came with us.  They had great decorations and even a haunted house to walk through.  I can’t wait to go back next year when they babies are bigger.

On Halloween, me and the babies stayed home during the day watching scary movies and at night we all headed over to my mom’s for chilli dinner.  The babies got dressed up as monkeys.  My little monkeys!  I bought their costumes at Carter’s and then added the bows to Libby’s to make it a girl monkey.  Hubs and I took the little ones for a walk through the neighborhood to look at all the trick or treaters.  I can’t wait until next year to actually take them trick or treating!

We all had a great time and Alex and Libby loved their first Halloween!

The Nursery

by noelle on August 30, 2011

I didn’t set up a nursery when I was pregnant because we thought that we would be moving before the babies were in their own cribs.  But our plans to move were delayed and the time for the babies to move into their own room had arrived.  So we setup a nursery for the babies in the guest bedroom.  The room is super small, and we didn’t change the paint colour, but here it is.  We still need to get some wall art.   The bumpers and blankets are not normally on the cribs.  I just put everything together for the pics.

And a liar too!

by noelle on August 21, 2011

I am so bad! I know I promised a post a few days ago, but these babies are unpredictable and I could not get to it.  Here is the update on the babies that I promised.

The babies are almost 5 months old now.  I can’t believe they are that old already, but at the same time, it seems like forever ago that they were  born.  Let me just say, this has not been easy but it has been an amazing ride.

I have been pumping for the babies since they were born.  I had dreams of tandem breastfeeding, but Alex never could latch on well in the beginning and breastfeeding Libby and pumping for him became too much for me to handle.  I was able to keep up with their supply needs until recently.  Their demand has surpassed my supply, even though I am pumping 60 oz a day, and we are now having to supplement with formula.  I had originally wanted to keep “breastfeeding” for a year, but at this point I am aiming for 6 months and then we will go from there.  It is extremely hard to find time to pump when I am alone with the babies, which is almost all the time.

The twins have been sleeping through the night since 2 months old (thank the good Lord)!  At first we thought it was a fluke, but when the continued to do it we were thrilled.  At first they slept from around 11pm until 6am, but slowly we have increased the time to 8pm until around 9:30am.  I do wake them to dream feed at midnight when I go to bed and they wake up themselves at around 6:30am to eat again, but then they go back to sleep until 9:30am.  Napping was another issue all together.  For the first 4 months the babies would not nap during the day.  They would take 15 minute cat naps here and there, but nothing substantial. It was impossible to get anything done.  I am happy to say that in the past 3 weeks, we have established a 2pm until 4pm or 5pm nap.  Overall, I have to say we have been blessed with the babies’s sleeping habits.

The babies stats are as follows: Alex weighs 14 lbs 13 oz and Libby weighs 14 lbs 2 oz. I can’t believe how big they are getting.  When they were first born they were so tiny and now they are robust babies.  Here is a comparison:

Newborn in carseat:

4 months old in carseats:

They are still a little small for their age, but they started off pretty small, so it’s not a problem.

The babies are now sleeping in the nursery in their cribs.  They stayed with us in our room for 4 and a half months, but last week we transitioned them into their cribs.  It has gone smoothly so far.  We are using the Angel Care Monitors for the babies.  Honestly, I wouldn’t sleep without it, and with it, I have slept better than I have since the babies were born.  I highly recommend it.

Hmmm, what else?  The babies are meeting all their milestones.  Smiling, rolling over, “talking” etc.  We got the go ahead to start solid from the doctor, but we decided to wait until around 6 months to introduce solids to the twins.  I can’t wait to try different foods!   We have started practicing putting a spoon in their mouths.  Hopefully, by the time they are ready to eat, they will be used to the spoon.  OK.  That’s all the time I have right now.  Here are some recent pics of the cuties.  Bye for now!

Bad Blogger!

by noelle on August 12, 2011

I know, I know.  I am a horrible blogger.  My only excuse is that I have been extremely busy with my two little munchkins!  They definitely keep me occupied all day long.

The babies are 4 and a half months old now.  Alex weighs about 15 lbs and Libby is at around 14 lbs.  Unfortunately, this means that they will be moving into the nursery this weekend and not sleeping in our room anymore.  They have outgrown their bassinets.  I don’t know how I am going to sleep at night with them not next to me.  I joke around with my hubs saying that he will find me asleep in the nursery, but I am only partly kidding. Ugh, how will I survive!  Hopefully the babies transition goes smoothly.  We will see.

Anyway, we are running to Costco to pick up a few things.  I’ll post a better update tonight when the twins are asleep.

Diaper Bag for Twins

by noelle on May 7, 2011

When I got pregnant, I couldn’t wait to pack my diaper bag.  One thing I really wanted to know was what other people put in their diaper bags.  I have two diaper bags, a big one for longer trips and a smaller one for every day.   Here are the contents of my large diaper bag, which is the Skip Hop Duo Deluxe Double.  I am packing for twins, so it may be more than someone with one child would need.

  • 2 ring toys
  • 2 sun hats
  • 2 warm hats
  • changing pad
  • mommy hook
  • 2 teething bibs
  • 2 blankets
  • nursing cover
  • 2 burp cloths
  • 2 9oz bottles
  • 2 waterproof bibs
  • powder formula
  • disposable diaper bags
  • Butt Cream
  • 8 diapers
  • nasal aspirator
  • 2 sleepers
  • 2 onesies
  • shirt for mommy
  • 1 ice pack
  • Boogie Wipes
  • 2 bottles ready-made formula
  • 2 nipples
  • Wipes
  • breast pads
  • Wet ones
  • Hand sanitizer
  • disposable changing pads
  • First Aid Kit

The contents of my first aid kit are as follows:

  • Tape
  • Band-aids
  • Alcohol Swabs
  • Guaze
  • Saline Spray
  • Tylenol
  • Gas Drops
  • Antiseptic
  • Antibiotic Cream
  • Anti-itch Cream
  • After Bite Kids
  • Benadryl
  • Benadryl Spray
  • Thermometer
  • Nail Clippers
  • tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Nail File

Seems like a lot of stuff right?  Well it all fits easily into the Skip Hop Duo Double.  And there is even room for more if needed.

And yes, it closes:

This is just what I like to have with me when I leave the house for more than 4 hours.  It is a large bag, so I do not like to  carry it around all the time.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone out there.  I will tell you what I carry in my everyday bag in another post.
