My mom has cancer

by noelle on May 7, 2010

UPDATE:  PRAISE GOD!!!  It was stage one!!  The cancer is gone!!!

I found out a few months ago that my mom, my poor mom, has endometrial cancer.  Endometrial cancer is sometimes also called uterine cancer.

From Wikipedia:

Endometrial cancer refers to several types of malignancy which arise from the endometrium, or lining of the uterus. Endometrial cancers are the most common gynecologic cancers in the United States, with over 35,000 women diagnosed each year in the U.S. The most common subtype, endometrioid adenocarcinoma, typically occurs within a few decades of menopause, is associated with excessive estrogen exposure, often develops in the setting of endometrial hyperplasia, and presents most often with vaginal bleeding. Endometrial carcinoma is the third most common cause of gynecologic cancer death (behind ovarian and cervical cancer). A total abdominal hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is the most common therapeutic approach.

Endometrial cancer may sometimes be referred to as uterine cancer. However, different cancers may develop not only from the endometrium itself but also from other tissues of the uterus, including cervical cancer, sarcoma of the myometrium, and trophoblastic disease.

I have not felt like talking about it, so very few people in my life know about this.  Today, she finds out what is going on.  Two weeks ago she had a total hysterectomy.  They removed everything, including 14 lymph nodes from her abdomen.  Today she will get the results of the biopsy they have done on the lymph nodes and tissue.  She will find out if she is “cured” or will have to undergo radiation treatment.  She is so scared.  I am sitting at work on pins and needles, waiting for an update.  I am praying that it was localized to the endometrium and that she will not have to undergo any more treatment.  Please say a prayer that the news is good news.

This is turning out to be a great year so far :(

Vancouver 2010

by noelle on May 6, 2010

At the end of April, my hubby, best friend, her boyfriend, and I went to Vancouver for the week.  Vancouver, Whistler and New Westminster are amazing and beautiful.  It was an amazing trip.

Day 1:  My hubs and I arrived in Vancouver, rented a car and picked Tansy and Tim up from the train station.  They had been in Seattle for the weekend, and took the train up to BC.  We met up with Prixie, Jason, Marcin, and Jody and drove the two hour drive up to Whistler.  When we got to Whistler, we checked into our Chalet, and then left for Ziplining.  Ziplining was one of the funnest things I have ever done, and I recommend it to everyone!

Day 2:  This was the day we stayed in Whistler for breakfast and a little bit of shopping.  Did a little shopping and then headed to the Sea to Sky Highway. We slowly drove to Vancouver and stopped off at some places along the highway to take pictures.  Shannon Falls was amazing.

Day 3:  Today was a very busy and tiring day, but it was really fun.  We started out in Horseshoe Bay for the Seawell Sea Safari.   We got to see some seals and bald eagles. Our next destination was the Capillano Bridge, did a nice little hike.  Then off to Stanley Park for a horse drawn carriage ride.  Fun day!

Day 4:  Today was Jason’s birthday.  So we took him to the Telus Science World.  After, he had to leave and meet up with Kenji at the airport so the rest of us walked to Chinatown for some dimsum and shopping. We later visited Dr. Sun Yun Garden.  Later on that night we went to Osumu’s for sushi and then Foggy Dew for some drinks.  It is very hard to find a Timmie’s (Tim Horton’s) in Vancouver and we were so excited when we finally found one.

Day 5:  It was an easy day.  We went to the Vancouver Aquarium to see the beluga whales.  Afterward, we went and walked around downtown for lunch.  Had the most amazing burgers at a place called Cactus.

Day 6:  Prixie and Jay’s wedding!  It was a great party, even though I had a killer headache.

Day 7: We drove Tansy and Tim to the airport :(   We were sad to see our Timsy go.  We chilled for the rest of the day.

Day 8:  Flew back to good old Ontario

Here is a slide show of the trip.  Be warned.  It is about 440 images.  LOL.

On Wednesday night, my friend Tiffanie and I went to see Lady Gaga at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.  It was phenomenal.  AMAZING!

Manditory “I’m alive” post

by noelle on December 12, 2009

Wow, it has been a while since my last post.  Not much is new in my life.  I am still not preggo which makes me very sad.  I am really starting to believe that it is not going to happen, and I am planning on going to the doctor in February to see where we go from here.  But this is our first cycle using the monitors, so we will see if they help at all.  I doubt it, as I already knew I was ovulating and when I was ovulating, so I don’t think that that is our problem.

In October Amie got married.  The wedding was awesome! It was an amazing night, and I am so happy for them.

Last weekend we had our Annual Holiday Hoopla with our friends.  It was a success and we all had a great time.  Here are a couple pics from Amie’s wedding, and the Christmas dinner.

I am really tired, and don’t have much else to say.  I will try to post again in the next couple days.
