Knitting

Long time…

by noelle on February 16, 2010

It has been a long time since I updated, and it is mostly because there is nothing to update really.   I feel like a broken record posting the same thing over and over again, so instead of constantly whining about not being able to get pregnant, I decided to take a break from posting.  So, no, I am not pregnant yet.   And, yes, I am depressed about it.  Who knew that I would have fertility problems.  My mom has 5 kids and never had any problems getting pregnant.  No one on either side of my family has had problems getting pregnant.  I seem to be the first.   After almost a year of actively trying, I have started to investigate medically.  So there is some renewed sense of hope I guess, but I am still not optimistic about ever getting pregnant.  I hate to be Debbie Downer, but that is just how I feel.

I have been trying to keep myself busy, to keep my mind off of ttc.  I am now finally knitting my husband a sweater.  You see, there is a supposed curse that if you knit your boyfriend a sweater, you will break up, ridiculous I know, but I wasn’t taking any chances.  Now that we are married, the curse is void, and I can go ahead and knit my honey a sweater.  I cast on two days ago.  This is the sweater I am making him (in black):

I have also started quilting.  This is not something I thought I would ever do.  Until I started seeing some of the beautiful, modern quilt patterns out there, and I decided I would give it a try.  I L-O-V-E it.  I am addicted!  I am already hoarding fabric for my next projects.   I may have gone a little overboard, but seriously, I am like a kid in a candy shop!  I have already completed one quilt, that I made for my friend’s baby girl.  I made it by myself, without a pattern so it is not perfect, but I still love it.  Here it is:

I am also now taking a quilting class with my mom, which is very fun!  When I was looking around for patterns online, I came across this blog:  http://camilleroskelley.typepad.com This girl is an uber talented quilter and designer, and I couldn’t help but buy 5 of her patterns.  I can’t wait to make every one of them.

I also stumbled across http://www.fatquartershop.com , a fantastic fabric shop that specializes in quilting fabric.  Let’s just say, a large portion of my last paycheck has gone to them.  Here are a few of the collections that I have ordered from already:

Well, that’s all I’ve got right now.

I have been working on a hat that I found on Ravelry called Ishbel Beret.  The pattern is by Ysolda Teague.   I love all of her stuff.  Here is a pic of what the hat should look like when it is finished.  It’s perfect for Fall!

I decided to make it from Elann Peruvian Baby Cashmere from elann.com in Serengeti Sand.  I really like the colour.  It should go with most of my jackets and sweaters, as I tend to gravitate towards browns and neutrals.  Anyway, I am about half way done.  Here is the hat so far.

Her is a close up of the lacy pattern.  I heart this hat!  I can’t wait to finish it.

I am also almost done the Cotton-Ease Baby Blanket that I have been working on FOREVER!  I really have been stuck at this spot for a while.  I just can’t decide what colour I want to use for the border.  And all those ends!  I am sooo dreading weaving in all of those ends.  I think I will wait until I am pregnant to do it.  The baby will give me the motivation needed to finish this.  I know it will be worth it in the end, but OMG that is a  lot of weaving in.

November 1st

by noelle on November 1, 2008

Today I woke up and started taking down the Halloween decorations in my house. When I was done, the house looked so sad, so blah. It depressed me. I decided that I would get out the Christmas decorations and get started. Hey, if the stores, i.e. the malls can bust out their Christmas decorations in October, I surely can put mine out on November 1st. I mean, there are some things I will not do yet, like the window lights and the outdoor decor, but that doesn’t mean I can’t go all out inside my place. I am almost done with everything except the Christmas Tree. I will do that later. Maybe even later tonight. Some people say that I am crazy, but I just love Christmas lights.

I have made quite a bit of progress on my baby blanket. I would say I am probably about 40% done now. It is a rather easy pattern to follow. No counting rows or stitches, and once you’ve done one square, you don’t even need to look at the pattern anymore, except to figure out the colour pattern, and which square to do next. I just absolutely love how this blanket looks. It is so cute! Here it is so far:

I  am on vacation this week, and I am enjoying being able to watch some daytime television on TLC, that I usually miss.  I love watching a baby story and bringing home baby.  I makes me so excited as I get closer to starting a family of my own.  I never thought it would actually happen, but in just about 6 months, I will be trying to have a baby!!! Soooo excited! I need to start taking a prenatal vitamin soon to get my body ready to have a baby.  I am going to also start taking my temp and making sure that my cycle is normal, and that I am indeed ovulating.

I am going to start making this blanket.  It is just up my alley and a style that I love.  I am going to run to Michaels today to grab the yarn and start on this tonight.  Super cute!  I am going to put this one away for myself, since it is gender neutral and would work if I have a boy or a girl when the time comes.

I can’t believe that in less than a month, I am going to be 29.  The last year of my twenties.  I had always envisioned that I would be married and have had my kids by now, but I guess life had different plans for me.  Oh well, 30 is the new 20, or so I hear.

Only 15 more days until Halloween.  My mom and I have decided to make Halloween dinner a tradition at her house.  This year we are making Pumkin Pot Pies.

Pumpkin Pot Pies

The recipe can be found here.  They look delicious.  I have also decided that I am going to take Halloween off work each year.  I have already booked it off this year.  It is double awesome that it is on a Friday this year making it a long weekend too.

When we got home from work today, Vlad was backing into the driveway when he suddenly stopped.  He was like, “Oh No…”  I turned around an looked at our parking spot, and there was a dead kitten.  :(

I don’t know if we had run it over when we left for work, or if one of our neighbours ran it over, but it looked pretty fresh, so I hope it wasn’t us.  It was a little kitten, looked like it had just left it’s mommy.  Needless to say, this ruined my night.  Give your kitties an extra cuddle tonight.

Also, my scarf is done, blocked and all, and I am very happy with the results.  I loved the yarn Incense by Elann.  It is so silky soft.  I will be using again for sure.
